George Rolland Bascom, 81, passed away August 8, 2002, at a local hospital following complications from surgery. Born March 16, 1921, in Manila, Daggett County, Utah to Rolland Almon and Matilda Nelson Bascom. Married Leonora S. Jenkins on March 11, 1943, in Med-ford, Oregon, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Leonora preceded him in death on December 21, 1998. George retired as a secondary educator after 36 years from the Grossmont Union High School District in San Diego. He was awarded teacher of the year in 1981. Active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) having served faithfully as Bishop, in the Stake Presidency, on the High Council, as Patriarch, and on nine missions. He was instrumental in the formation of the U.S. Mormon Battalion Chapter in San Diego and later served as Commanding Officer of the Utah Mormon Battalion from 1999-2000. Survived by sons, David George (Tonya), Livermore, CA; Roger A. (Brooke), Provo; son-in-law Steven (Kris) Brey, Centerville; 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brothers Raymon O. (Illa), Vernal and Cleo E. (Donna), Provo; sister Carma E. (George) Bryant, Manila, Daggett Co., Utah. Preceded in death by his wife and daughter, Megan Brey. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 12, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Gate Stake Center, 2nd Ave. and "A" Street, where friends may call from 9-10:30 a.m. Interment Centerville City Cemetery.
